project overview

Green Design & Construct was engaged to coordinate an energy upgrade for an operational commercial facility seeking to improve energy performance and support its broader sustainability objectives.

The project began with a review of the site's existing electrical infrastructure, roof areas, energy use and operational requirements. This informed a fit-for-purpose solution that could be installed safely, integrated with existing building systems and maintained effectively over the long term.

GDC managed the pathway from planning to handover, coordinating technical specialists, suppliers, access equipment, site stakeholders and installation crews. The result was a complete energy asset rather than a stand-alone equipment installation: considered against compliance, operational continuity, future maintenance and measurable performance.

PLANNING AN ENERGY UPGRADE AROUND A LIVE SITE

Delivering energy infrastructure within an active facility required detailed planning and close coordination. Roof access, lifting operations, electrical works and material deliveries all needed to be staged around normal site activity.

GDC coordinated the works through defined phases, from investigation and technical design to procurement, installation, testing and final handover. Safe work controls, permits, exclusion zones and communication with site representatives helped maintain access and minimise disruption throughout delivery.

The installation was also planned with the asset's full lifecycle in mind. Equipment placement, service access, monitoring capability and handover information were considered early so the completed system could be operated, inspected and maintained efficiently.

The works brought together:

  • Site investigation, energy-use review and assessment of existing infrastructure

  • Roof, access and constructability assessment

Coordination of specialist system design and engineering

  • Approvals, compliance planning and network coordination

  • Procurement and delivery of solar modules, mounting systems, inverters and associated components

  • Mounting infrastructure and photovoltaic modules

  • DC and AC cabling, isolators, protection equipment and electrical integration

  • Switchboard and metering upgrades where required

Coordination of lifting equipment, roof access and fall-protection controls

  • Installation and configuration of monitoring and performance-reporting systems

  • Testing, commissioning and verification of system operation

  • Asset documentation, warranties and operating information

  • Ongoing inspection and maintenance pathway

Project outcomes:

The completed project provided the facility with an integrated energy solution designed around operational needs and long-term asset value, including:

  • New on-site renewable-energy infrastructure

  • A coordinated system aligned with the site's existing assets

  • Visibility of system operation through monitoring and reporting

  • A practical platform for future energy use and optimisation

  • Clear asset, warranty and handover information for ongoing management

  • An installation planned for safe access, inspection and ongoing maintenance requirements

  • Progress toward the client's broader energy and sustainability objectives

Build. Maintain. Sustain.

This project demonstrates GDC's ability to turn an energy objective into a coordinated, operational asset.

By combining practical project management with specialist technical delivery, GDC managed the full pathway from early assessment to commissioning and handover. The result was an energy solution designed not only to perform at installation, but to remain visible, serviceable and valuable throughout its working life.
